Scott
Owens
He was known as “The Great Scott”,
and he was as funny as they come. Scott Owens had made the rounds
around Florida, working at WMFJ in Daytona Beach before landing
at WALT radio in the late 60s.
Scott ended up programming WCWR the Oldies
station in 1970, and also did afternoon drive.
Scott Owens had one of the most incredible
gifts God gave man, to make people laugh their butts off. He would
make you laugh when doing a commercial. His Fabric gardens commercials
were hysterical. He did a Flip Wilson style voice that was funnier
than Flip’s.
Scott got out of the radio business in the
80s after owning a station or two. The business changed radically,
and it was not fun anymore. It is radio’s loss that
we can not hear
“The Great Scott” anymore. Truly one of the most
gifted entertainers of the “Golden Era”.
Update • February 2004
I'm off the air now except for an occasional HILARIOUS spot.
I own a station known as WKZU FM in Tupelo MS --- my e-mail address is scott@classicradiofm.com.
I got a call the other day from Jimmy The
Jet... WOW! What a blast from the past. My last on air gig
was 1987 on WPFM in Panama City, Florida. PD and afternoon
drive. From there I went into management. WRXR the rocker
in Agusta, Ga. Than to Nashville, TN... Where I managed WVOL
and the #1 Radio station in Nashville WQQK. I was in Nashville
for six years when the station was sold to the Dickie brothers
after six weeks of that crap I decided to Buy a station. I
bought and sold a couple of properties and in '98 I settled
here. --- Scott |
