Where Are They Now?

Rick - 2003Rick Adkins

Native of Charleston, WV area (St. Albans), started working in radio at 17. Had a great time at the following stations:

WVAF-FM, Charleston, WV (V-100): Where I "learned the ropes".

WCAW-AM, Charleston, WV (back when it was 50KW, Clear Channel!): Awesome powerhouse station, covered three states at night -- but it was Country Music. ;-)

WGUL-AM & FM, New Port Richey, FL (Best place I ever worked!!): What can I say? Thad Lowrey, Dave Harrell, Chuck Long, Dave Hunter, Steve McClure and the rest -- all pros, had just the greatest time working there with all of them, as Morning Drive announcer, Music Director, and finally Programming Director. Did "Open Line" talk show when the boss was off - great experience.

Rick - 1973WKLC-AM & FM, St. Albans, WV: FM side rocked, but we used to sit in the FM studio and look through the glass at the parade of preachers on the AM side, which taught me two things: Don't mess with snakes, and apparently the proper way to heal someone is to smack 'em on the forehead with your open palm (I've never tried either!).

WSCW-AM & FM, South Charleston, WV: Eclectic station. Nuff said.

I now live in Pinellas County, enjoying the beaches, great weather, and the fairly regular trips to Disney World with the family. As many of my former colleagues have said, radio ain't what it used to be -- with the exception of Jack and Tedd every morning. Keep up the great work, guys!
