Randy
Michaels
He is one of the most innovative forces in
radio.
Growing up in Ohio, he started in radio at a very young age.
Michaels made a name for himself where ever he went and he proved
to be very successful at knowing what the public wanted. He rose
from an on the air personality, into the programming ranks.
His first taste of Tampa came in the late 70s when he was Program
Director for the Taft station 1250 WDAE. He was very successful.
Next came Jacor and WFLA. The rest is history, his touch is still
felt at WFLA today.
Randy spearheaded Jacor from a small Ohio company, to a mega
merger with Clear Channel Communications. The merger was a good
one, Clear Channel has grown to close to 1200 radio stations.
The marriage between Michaels and Clear Channel came to en end
in 2002. His absence is felt in a big way. Randy will always
be a programming guy, Clear Channel does not put programming
first.
This is what trade magazine Media Works
had to say about radio’s
most controversial force!
“Michaels is either hated or loved.
He lives for controversy and isn't doing his job if he isn't
talked about. He's the kind
of guy that most people love to criticize yet in the same breath
would kill to have 30 minutes of his time. It's safe to say that
when Radio historians look back at persons with the biggest impact
on Radio, Michaels will be remembered among a group of legends.”
He is definitely Tampa Bay Radio Hall of Fame first ballot inductee. |
