Where Are They Now?

Pepper Lypsinx

Unquestionably the greatest DJ to ever work Tampa Bay. Pepper Lypsinx had it all, rapid fire delivery, very tight board and a wild sense of humor. This guy is a living legend.

Pepper, born Jim Wayman, was first heard locally at WYND ‘Surf Row Radio’ in Sarasota in the mid 60s. Jim Wayman worked with a great staff that included Johnny Dark and other radio luminaries of the future.

His travels carried him to WFSO in Pinellas Park in the late 60s, and off to WLCY where he toiled under the moniker Pepper ‘Ono’ Lypsinx.

Pepper was a adventurous wonderer and headed to Orlando (before Mickey). While in Orlando, it is rumored Pepper was flying high on LSD when there was a hard knock on his apartment door. He peeked out the window and thought he saw a police car. Pepper raced for the frig where he had more acid stored, swallowed it all, and answered the door. In those days Orlando cop cars and cabs looked almost identical. Needless to say, it was a cab with a wrong address. Pepper was never the same after that day.

Jim Wayman disappeared and had not been heard from for almost 30 years, until earlier this Spring when he was found living in Cresent City, California, on the Oregon border.

Pepper Lypsinx is a definite member of the Tampa Bay Radio Hall of Fame. Listen to what radio legend Bill Hennes says of this phenom; Jim Wayman, known on the air as, Pepper Lypsinx was and is one of the most creative and innovated talents. He is the ultimate at thinking "out of the box."
