Pat
George Pat started in Radio in the late 70’s
at WDAE as janitor (the guy who started it all and hired him,
chief engineer Dick Lucas). Worked as janitor until one day when
some jock called in sick and he happened to be there, and knew
how to run the board! Pat says "The PD told me not to say
anything but the call letters and ID; I opened the mic as much
as possible!" Turned into lots of part-time on air including
news reporter and traffic with Al Ford! 1977. George started driving
the Bill Currie Courtesy Van, until several years later he received
a call from Scott Shannon wanting to know if he wanted to leave
WDAE to be part of the Q Morning Zoo, and do traffic? Hell Yes!
Pat continued driving the BC van and did traffic for 20 years
doing morning and afternoon reporting, at Q105 with the best,
Nancy Alexander, Lynn Claussen Arch Deal, Deputy Mike, and his
good buddy (they both have the same birthday) Chuck Bear! Pat George became promotion director at Q105
for several years until CBS bought it and decided not to let him
stay. Pat now works with the Walt Disney Company as Promotions
/ Production / Talent / Operations Director and janitor for Radio
Disney. I guess you could say he came full circle. Pat has a wife named Amy, 2 great and good-looking
kids. Kate a junior at Indiana University and Austin age 5. He
says "Radio has been a great ride and I haven’t started
looking for the exit ramp yet!" Email: pat.george@abc.com |
