Where Are They Now?

Kat KollinsKat Kollins

You may have heard Kat Kollins on Smooth Jazz WSJT, as sidekick to the incredibly talented Mark Larsen on News Talk 1040 WWBA, or representing the SPCA of Pinellas County on various area TV and radio stations.  Kat relocated to Tampa Bay in the winter of 2003 from Up-state New York after increasing morning show ratings to their highest level ever on Adult Contemporary WTOJ. She was the midday rocker on sister station WOTT, afternoon drive personality on CHR power house WBDI / WBDR, and Operations Manager and Assistant Production Director for two of the stations. Kat also served as spokesperson for many local businesses, and she was heavily involved in community non-profit organizations.

Prior to life in New York, Kat was the night personality on Dothan's WKMX, where she took phones to the next level. During the radio upheaval of the 1990s, Kat (then Kate McCoy) shared the mic with "Uncle Harley" on Panama City's Bubba Radio, featuring Blues and Southern Rock. She also was heard on AC sister station Sunny 98.5, and "Kate" filled in on Country 92.5 WPAP.

Like many in the industry, Kat packed away her headphones in search of more stable pastures. She dispatched for the Clearwater Police Department before entering the cable industry with Bright House Networks. Three years later, she transferred to national corporate headquarters in Syracuse, NY. The cable industry now faces many of the same challenges, changes, and mergers that were common in radio after the Telecommunications Acts were passed, so stay tuned for updates.
