The
Streetlites
In 1994, the original
vocal group "The Streetlites" was formed.
Johnny Lurie Jr. (Bass) learned all
the music of the 'Doo-Wop' era as he grew up listening to rehearsals
of his Father's group, "The Nightlites,"a popular 50's
New York City vocal group.
Jim Holway (Tenor) sang the music of
the 50's and 60's as a teenager, and was also a studio singer
for many popular groups.
Jose Fernandez (Tenor) sang their brand
of music also as a teenager in the Bronx but his origin is in
the Tampa Bay area in the 60's where he sang in a rock n roll
band called "The Swinging Satins."
Mark Dawson (Tenor) came to the Tampa
bay area in 1997 from Chicago where he was the lead singer and
musical director of his own very popular rock band, "The
All-night Newsboys," for 14 years. Mark has also recorded
national radio spots for the Coors Brewing Company.
Collectively, "The Streetlites"
have over one hundred years of vocal experience between them.
These four men have taken the wonderful sounds of 50's, 60's and
70's, those great harmonies heard over the years, and have perfected
those sounds to present them to you through exquisitely beautiful
A cappella and musically accompanied vocals. Their incredible
harmonies have astounded and excited audiences up and down the
eastern coast of the United States, from Doo-Wop to Motown and
even some R&B. Their voices are so perfectly blended that
when you hear them singing A cappella, you'll be convinced they
are using musical accompaniment, when in fact, it is only their
voices. In a very short time, "The Streetlites" have
definitely been noticed by the music industry. Their beautiful
harmonies and terrific rhythms are pure 50's and 60's, New York
City "street corner" style. "The Streetlites"
are marvelous performers, blending their sometimes '-wacky' personalities
with pristine vocals that can rival the best in the business.
"The Streetlites" have appeared with
such 'big name' groups as the Drifters, the Coasters, the Marcels,
the Mamas & the Papas, Three Dog Night, Shirley Reeves (of
the Shirelles), Danny & the Juniors, the Grass Roots, the
Beach Boys, Captain and Tenille, Ray Peterson, the Tams, Mary
Wilson (of the Original Supremes), the Turtles, Badfinger, and
Mitch Ryder & the Detroit Wheels. They most recently performed
in Clearwater, Fl. at the Classic Royalty Theater. They literally
stole the show and left the stage with a cheering crowd's standing
ovation. Florida has never seen the likes of the quality of these
fine performers.
"The Streetlites" can accommodate
their performances to whatever length of show you desire. They
will dazzle your audience with the best "Doo-Wop" vocal
styling this side of the Bronx.
